Sheldon Schafer, this year's Armand Spitz Lecturer, is a Past President of GLPA and two-time conference host. He retired as Director of Education and Planetarium Curator at the Peoria Riverfront Museum in February, after 38 years with the Museum (and its predecessor, Lakeview Museum of Arts & Sciences) and 43 years in the field. Since 1980, he has taught introductory astronomy at Bradley University and continues to teach in retirement. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Astronomy. After graduation, he entered the US Peace Corps, serving in the Science Teachers' Workshop program in Andhra Pradesh, India where he married his wife of 43 years. He then entered the planetarium field at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, New York and completed graduate studies at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York with an MS in Science & Planetarium Education.
