Mid-Conference Excursion
Como Park Zoo & Conservatory
After a long day of paper sessions, workshops, and networking, you will have the opportunity to visit the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory for a midweek trip at this year’s GLPA+WAC conference!
We will have a bus to provide free transportation, and attendees are welcome to drive their own vehicle and park for free near the facility. The park is a 15-minute drive from the hotel and avoids major highways.
The Zoo & Conservatory is located right near Lake Como with ample walking and biking trails for attendees to explore with beautiful views of the local plants and wildlife.
Travel
The Twin Cities are home to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, which is served by American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, and United.
Attendees can get from the airport to the hotel via taxi or ride share. The airport also has rental car locations from ACE Rent a Car, Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, and National.
There are also rail routes that serve the Twin Cities, passing through Chicago, Milwaukee, and other stops around Interstates 90 and 94.
Weather & Clothing
Early October in the Twin Cities could be sunny and warm, or cloudy and raining/snowing! Check the weather forecast 1 week out. Bring layers. The banquet on Friday night is the most dressy event of the conference.
Most activities are within the conference hotel and the Bell Museum, with no strenuous walking and little time outdoors.
The mid-conference tour will include casual strolling through a conservatory (indoors) and a zoo (mostly outdoors).
The post-conference tour will be casual walking indoors.
